Magic

Within our world are mysterious forces that may be harnessed and manipulated by those skilled enough to do so. Magic is a subject with a thousand interpretations. The way magic is used varies by the various traditions and practitioners.

Spell Schools and Families

A school of spells is a collection of spells that are manifested in a similar ways. A school collects magical energy towards a goal, while the individual spells focus it to achieve that goal. A family is a collection of spell schools that are easily connected to each other.

Each spellcaster will have a selection of Schools or have a Family of schools to select spells from. THe specifics will be listed on the class pages.

Manifesting a Spell

Each spell has a Manifest Rating(MR) that shows how long much effort it takes to cast. The MR of a spell is listed on the individual spell, but this number may be altered by environmental factors, abilities, and other factors.

Ritual Spells

Some spells can be cast by performing in a way that does not expend much mana at the cost of time. Ritual Spells will have an 'R' in their Manifest Rating followed by how long the spell takes to cast.

Spell Power

Your Spell Power is the higher of your Spellcaster Stats. Spells will often say something like "BSvs Power." Simply add the value of your Spell Power to the Difficulty of the save.


How Magic Works

Declare your Spell

State what spell your character is going to manifest. Verify the Manifest Rating in case other effects adjust it.

Allocate Mana

Choose how many points of mana you wish to use for the spell, adding or subtracting as specified by other effects.

Roll Mana Pool

Roll an amount of D6 equal to the amount of mana used. Rerolls may be used now if they are available. Sum up the result of the dice. If it meets or exceeds the Manifest Rating, the spell is cast.

Resolve Effects

Apply the effects of the spell including Amplification Effects if the Amplification Rating is met. If the spell allows for its target to attempt to resist the effects they will then roll for those Saves.


Arcane Magic

The Arcane Arts is a form of magic rooted in scientific study. Powerful energies guided through the lense of a focused mind. The prevailing theory is that Arcane Spells temporarily rewrite the underlying rules of existence until reality is able to correct itself. Theoretically, anyone could learn arcane magic with sufficient dedication.

Divine Magic

Divine Magic is the form of magic centered around belief, wether this is in a deity of a concept. Those who follow their beliefs are granted insight into spells which they see as being bestowed upon them by their god. Anyone who is sufficiently devoted to a cause could develop a form of divine magic.

Primal Magic

Primal Magic is a commonly found in the rural parts of the world. It is focused in the natural cycles of seasons, moon phases, and migrations as well as how they interact. Primal Magic is often achieved by venerating aspects of this natural cycle.
